After a lifetime of doubt and trying other things, I’ve finally embraced my inner geek. But I’m not sitting in my basement, living on pizza and only communicating on TikTok - and, frankly, neither are my colleagues and mentors.

We are carpenters and chefs who run races and, yes, play D&D. We work inside our communities to make sure your tech works but also stare at grocery prices figuring out what’s for dinner. Yes, we might wear the same boring adjacent outfits to work; but we do clean up VERY nicely for the right cause.

I’m sharing my story because I want people to understand that geeks can be some of the kindest, most well rounded souls you will ever meet. We’re considerate and multi-talented - we just might not be social in the way that you’re used to. And it’s time we quit apologizing for that.

You have your quirks and we have ours. And I think that’s the way it was always meant to be.
